Why data and AI matter in financial services

Financial services sets a high bar for control and evidence, and that discipline shapes how we work in every industry. Wealth and asset managers, trading and capital markets firms, banks and fintechs run on data about clients, orders, positions, risk and transactions, and they answer to supervisors who expect evidence of how decisions were made. That makes governance, traceability and human oversight design requirements rather than afterthoughts.

Typical use cases

  • Advisor call summaries and compliance flagging, with reviewers deciding what needs follow-up.
  • Portfolio monitoring against agreed parameters, with alerts routed to portfolio managers.
  • Client reporting and document drafting grounded in approved data and templates.
  • Know your customer (KYC) onboarding with document extraction, entity matching and analyst review.
  • Trade analytics and transaction cost analysis using streaming and historical market data.
  • Near-real-time revenue and profit-and-loss estimation for trading desks.
  • Surveillance support in which compliance staff triage alerts from trades and communications.
  • Regulatory and risk reporting built on lineage-aware data with documented reconciliations.

Data foundations we typically build

Financial data foundations typically start with a lakehouse or data warehouse on AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud, organized into raw, refined and curated layers. Master data and reference data keep clients, accounts, instruments and counterparties consistent across systems. Streaming ingestion and change data capture from order management systems, venues and custodians feed time-sensitive views, while batch loads cover end-of-day positions. A semantic layer defines measures such as exposure and execution cost once, and data quality checks, data contracts, lineage and immutable audit trails support supervisory questions. Analytical workloads stay separate from latency-sensitive execution paths.

Where ARCHR can help

Governance and privacy context

Financial firms answer to securities and prudential regulators that differ by jurisdiction: for example Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) in Canada, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in the United States, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the United Kingdom, and EU supervisors. Personal information falls under privacy law such as Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or state laws, and many firms also reference ISO/IEC 27001. Our designs aim to support alignment by keeping humans in review steps, retaining evidence, versioning models and documenting how AI outputs are used. Your compliance team determines what applies. For background see CIRO compliance and AI and OSFI model risk and AI.

Method

What an engagement could look like

01

Discovery & Strategy

Run a session with technology, operations and compliance, and agree one workflow with its evaluation criteria and oversight points.

02

Pilot & Validation

Pilot that workflow, such as call review, trade analytics or document onboarding, with reviewers in the loop.

03

Build & Scale

Extend in stages with monitoring, versioned models, access controls and documented approvals.

04

Optimize & Evolve

Review results with the business and compliance, retrain as conditions change, and plan the next workflow.

This page is general information about ARCHR services. It describes typical challenges and how an engagement could be designed. It is not legal, financial or medical advice, and it does not assure compliance with any regulation. Regulators and laws are named as context only.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can AI replace advisor, trader or compliance review?

Our designs assist qualified people rather than replace them. AI can summarize, flag and draft, while advisors, traders and compliance officers make the decisions.

Can you work with our existing market data and order management vendors?

Yes. We are vendor-honest and design around the systems you already use, adding components only where there is a clear need.

Where does client data reside?

That is a design decision made with your privacy and compliance teams. We document where data is stored, who can access it and how it is retained, on AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.

Do you provide investment advice?

No. We provide data and AI consulting. We do not give investment, legal or compliance advice, and we do not manage money.
